Alkagesta took part in Industry Networking Night 2026 on 15 October, organised by the Maritime Merchants Society and supported by ITI@SMU, bringing the company into direct conversation with students from Singapore Management University interested in shipping and commodities.
Agshin Bakirzade, Commodity Trading Director, APAC, and Afiq Salim, Senior Marine Fuel Trader, represented Alkagesta at the event. Students asked about career paths across trading, operations, and trade finance, and the team shared a practical view of what working in the marine fuels industry involves day to day.
Meeting students curious about the industry was a highlight of the evening. Singapore is the world’s largest marine fuels hub, and events like this help young talent see the opportunities ahead.
Singapore has been central to the growth of Alkagesta Asia, which reached approximately 250,000 metric tonnes per month within its first full year of operations. As the hub expands, attracting and developing local talent forms an important part of building a lasting presence. Engagement with universities also connects with the wider commitment to people and communities reflected in the ESG Framework, and with the record first half of 2026, which created demand for new skills across trading, operations, and finance.
