Alkagesta’s 2022 ESG Report reaffirms the company’s commitment to responsible growth, ethical governance, and sustainable business practices. Guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), Alkagesta continues advancing its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework to create long-term value and contribute to global sustainability.

Approach to ESG

In 2022, Alkagesta strengthened its ESG journey initiated in 2021 by integrating sustainability across all business operations. The company traded over 2.6 million metric tons of petroleum and fertilizer products worldwide, directly supporting global energy and food security.
Alkagesta prioritizes UN SDGs 3, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, and 17, reflecting its focus on health, clean energy, innovation, responsible consumption, climate action, and partnerships.

Sustainability Strategy

Alkagesta’s sustainability strategy is anchored in strong governance, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility. In 2022, the company implemented concrete ESG actions, including:

  • Participation and sponsorship of major international sustainability conferences
  • Investment in a Used Cooking Oil (UCO) Recycling Plant as part of its green investment portfolio
  • Establishing Vessel Vetting policy that assesses the safety, environmental, and operational performance of every vessel we charter.

This framework — Monitor, Act, and Track Performance — ensures Alkagesta’s ESG objectives are measurable, transparent, and continuously improved.

Governance for Sustainable Growth

Alkagesta upholds the highest standards of corporate governance to ensure long-term value creation. The Board of Directors and the Executive Board, supported by the Audit, Risk, Finance & Investment, Trading & Business Development, and ESG & Compliance Committees, ensures effective oversight and ethical management.
The ESG and Compliance Committee plays a vital role in assessing ESG performance, identifying risks and opportunities, and integrating sustainability considerations into strategy and operations.
Through strong governance and transparent reporting, Alkagesta fosters trust among stakeholders and reinforces its reputation as a responsible global trading company.

Responsible Operations

Alkagesta’s comprehensive Compliance Program includes robust Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC), Anti-Money Laundering (AML/CFT), Sanctions, and Know Your Customer (KYC) policies. Tools such as World-Check and SeaSearcher strengthen due diligence and maritime compliance.
In 2022 alone, Alkagesta conducted 247 vessel screenings and 97 counterpart KYC assessments, ensuring that all partners adhere to ethical and environmental standards.
Through vessel vetting and liability insurance coverage, the company minimizes environmental risk and promotes safe, sustainable trade operations.
