Alkagesta has been covered by multiple international media outlets following the agreement to acquire Energy Petrol, an independent marine fuel distributor in Türkiye founded in 1997.

The coverage highlights the acquisition as the first move by Alkagesta into vessel ownership. The deal, approved by the Turkish Competition Authority, includes eight bunkering vessels and a long-term lease of 28,000 cubic metres of tank capacity at the Altıntel terminal in Gebze, bringing total oil products storage under the company to around 728,000 cubic metres. Energy Petrol, the third-largest physical supplier in the port of Istanbul, will continue to operate independently under its existing brand and customer base.

Reports framed the transaction as a shift from trading marine fuel to distributing it directly to end users, noting that Alkagesta traded 4.9 million tonnes in the first half of 2026, up 53% year on year, and had until now chartered rather than owned tonnage. Several outlets also reported that Alkagesta had been a wholesale supplier to Energy Petrol for several years and had won a competitive sale process against other trading houses and industry majors.

Asad Huseynov, Managing Director of Investments and Asset Management at Alkagesta, was quoted describing the deal as reflecting “a fundamental shift in commodity markets toward greater asset depth and sustainable business model over the long-term.”
